19世纪潮州天灾不断，来自八邑的先辈从樟林港出发，乘着红头船来到了新加坡，从事甘蜜、布料、胡椒等贸易，为美好生活艰苦奋斗。为了凝聚在地潮州人，共同克服艰难的环境，同时接应新来的同乡，本地潮人先贤先后发起潮人社团组织。新加坡潮州八邑会馆，也是在这个时期应运而生。
In the 19th century, a series of natural disasters devastated Chaozhou, prompting many people from the Eight Counties to embark on red-headed junks from Zhanglin Port in search of a better future in Singapore. There, they traded in gambier, textiles, and pepper, enduring immense hardships as they built new lives and laid the foundations for future generations.
To unite the local Teochew community, overcome adversity, and support new arrivals, early pioneers established clan associations. The Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan was founded during this pivotal era.

1929 · Establishment of Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan
新加坡潮州八邑会馆的成立，离不开一位举足轻重的先贤领袖——林义顺。当时，他是叱咤商界的“橡胶大亨”与“黄梨大王”，也是深受大家尊敬的实业家，慈善家和民主革命活动家。
The establishment of Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan was made possible through the efforts of a distinguished community leader, Lim Nee Soon. Widely known as the “Rubber Magnate” and “Pineapple King”, he was a prominent businessman, philanthropist and supporter of democratic revolutionary movements, earning the respect and admiration of the community.
当时林义顺意识到，需要一个具有包容性的组织来团结在地潮州人，代表他们在不断变化的社会中的利益。在1928年，林义顺联合其他12位潮州侨领成立了临时委员会，林义顺被任命为主席；随后又在端蒙学校召集全新加坡潮侨大会，为会馆成立做准备。1929年3月20日，新加坡潮州八邑会馆正式成立，确立了“敦睦乡谊，弘扬文化，促进工商”的宗旨。
Recognising the need for an inclusive organisation to unite the local Teochew community and represent its interests in a rapidly changing society, Lim Nee Soon joined forces with 12 other Teochew leaders in 1928 to form a provisional committee, with Lim Nee Soon serving as its chairman. He subsequently convened a general assembly of Teochew migrants across Singapore at Tuan Mong School to prepare for the establishment of the association. On 20 March 1929, Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan was officially founded, adopting the mission of fostering fellowship among fellow townsmen, promoting culture, and advancing commerce and industry.
“潮州八邑”指过去属潮州府的八个县，分别是潮安、揭阳、澄海、潮阳、普宁、惠来、饶平和南澳。
“Teochew Eight Counties” refers to the eight counties that historically fell under the jurisdiction of the former Teochew Prefecture: Chao’an, Jieyang, Chenghai, Chaoyang, Puning, Huilai, Raoping, and Nan’ao.
新加坡潮州八邑会馆成立之初，临时办事处设在登路97号端蒙学校。成立后第二年，将原来设于端蒙学校的临时办公室迁至粤海清庙后座，1953年，会馆将名下在登路的五间屋子，连同端蒙原来的校舍改建为一座四层楼的大厦，即1963年竣工启用的潮州大厦。自此，潮州八邑会馆就从粤海清庙迁至潮州大厦，和义安公司与端蒙学校同在一个屋檐下，齐心协力为潮人社群和华文教育作出贡献。
When it was first established, the temporary office of the Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan was located at 97 Tank Road, within the premises of Tuan Mong High School. In the second year following its establishment, the association relocated its temporary office from Tuan Mong High School to the rear section of Yueh Hai Ching Temple. In 1953, the association converted the five shophouses it owned on Tank Road, together with the original Tuan Mong High School building, into a four-storey structure known as Teochew Building, which was completed and officially opened in 1963.
Thereafter, the Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan moved its headquarters from Yueh Hai Ching Temple to Teochew Building. Under one roof with the Ngee Ann Kongsi and Tuan Mong High School, the three institutions worked together to serve the Teochew community and advance Chinese-language education.

继林义顺之后，新加坡本地潮社翘楚也义不容辞的相继接棒领导会馆，他们都在不同阶段为会馆的发展做出了巨大的贡献。
Following the footsteps of Lim Nee Soon, leading figures from Singapore’s Teochew community stepped forward to helm the association. Each making significant contributions to its development at different stages.

创建之初，新加坡潮州八邑会馆积极为祖籍地出力，修筑潮州北堤、赈济贫民、支援抗日、救助粮荒。同时也大力发展本地慈善事业，充分发挥照顾和凝聚潮人潮社的作用。
在区域与国际舞台上，潮州八邑会馆积极促进全球潮人网络的联系与合作，参与发起马来西亚潮州公会联合会。此外，作为国际潮团总会发起人之一，会馆也成功举办第四届和第十二届国际潮团联谊年会，2025年成功申办2027年第二十四届国际潮团联谊年会。同时，会馆还参与发起“国际潮青联合会”与“潮籍博士联合会”，搭建青年与专业的交流平台。
Since its founding, the Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan contributed to the welfare of its ancestral homeland. It supported the construction of the North Embankment in ChaoZhou, provided relief to the poor, backed resistance efforts during the War of Resistance against Japan and assisted famine-stricken communities. At the same time, the association developed charitable initiatives in Singapore, playing a vital role in caring for and uniting the local Teochew community.
On the regional and international stage, the Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan has strengthened ties among Teochew communities worldwide. It is one of the founding organisations of the Teochew International Federation and successfully hosted the 4th and 12th Teochew International Convention. In 2025, the association secured the right to host the 24th Teochew International Convention in 2027. It participated in the founding of the Federated Teochew Associations of Malaysia, the International Teochew Youth Federation and the International Teochew Doctors Association, creating platforms for exchange and collaboration among young leaders and professionals.

会馆也不遗余力地促进本地各籍贯社群的交流与合作，参与发起新加坡广东会馆、宗乡总会等组织，推动华族文化事业发展。1986年，潮州八邑会馆和其他六个宗乡会馆，联合发起成立了新加坡宗乡会馆联合总会，促进潮人群体跨籍贯的交流。
The Huay Kuan spare no effort in promoting exchange and cooperation among local dialect groups, co-founding organisations like the Singapore Kwangtung Hui Kuan and the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) to drive Chinese cultural development. In 1986, the Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan and six other clan associations jointly established the SFCCA to foster cross-dialect exchanges among the Teochew community.

The association has actively fostered cooperation among Singapore’s various Chinese dialect communities and contributed to the development of Chinese cultural initiatives. In 1986, it joined six other clan associations to co-found the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, promoting greater interaction and collaboration across dialect groups.

如今的新加坡潮州八邑会馆，进入发展新纪元。会馆坚持与时俱进，以创新为驱动，通过一个个招牌活动，为会馆注入新活力。
在时任会长郭明忠的带领下，会馆成功举办大型潮州节，在本地掀起了潮州风潮。通过民俗、美食和戏曲，让更多人认识潮州文化，也让“潮州人，家己人”的口号深入人心。2014年，会馆在义安城广场隆重举办首届潮州节，为期12天，吸引超过十万人次参加。2016年，在滨海湾金沙展厅举行的第二届潮州节，参与人数超过十五万人次。2021年，疫情关系，潮州节通过线上“虚拟潮州村”的方式举行。
Entering a new era of development, the Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan has embraced innovation through a series of signature initiatives. Under then-President Dr George Quek Ming Choo, the association launched the Teochew Festival, bringing Teochew culture to a wider audience through folk traditions, cuisine, and opera.
The Teochew Festival was first held at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza in 2014, the festival attracted over 100,000 visitors. The 2016 edition at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre drew more than 150,000 participants, while the 2021 festival was held online as a virtual “Teochew Village”.

2016年，由现任会长吴木興发起，会馆首办“潮人企业家奖”，为会馆发掘吸纳优秀年轻潮州企业家。商界前辈翁烈强众望所归，成为首届荣誉企业家奖得主。“潮人企业家奖”旨在表彰杰出的潮人企业家及其对社会的贡献。此奖项后来扩展到全世界范围，在全球范围内促进潮商的商业合作和交流。
In 2016, under the leadership of President Dato’ Seri Dr Derek Goh BBM(L), the association launched the inaugural Teochew Entrepreneur Awards to recognise outstanding Teochew entrepreneurs and attract a new generation of business leaders to the association. Veteran businessman Eng Liat Kiang was the first recipient of the Honorary Award. Since then, the awards have expanded globally, serving as a platform to promote networking, collaboration, and exchange among Teochew entrepreneurs worldwide.

八邑会馆设有多个功能组别，如文教组、青年团、国内外事务组、潮女组、公益组等，形成了一个多层次、跨领域、相互支持的队伍，共同推动会馆发展。
文教组，从1983年成立以来，积极出版了各类的刊物和专辑，如新加坡潮人故事，记录了来自不同领域的各个潮州人的奋斗历史。此外，还开设潮语班与潮曲班，开展书画雅集，摄影、网络等课程，积极推动潮州文化传承。
The Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan is organised into several functional groups, including Culture & Education, Youth, Local & International Affairs, Ladies and Community Services, forming a collaborative structure that supports its development.
Since 1983, the Culture & Education Committee has promoted Teochew heritage through publications such as Stories of Singapore Teochews, as well as language, opera, calligraphy and digital media classes to preserve Teochew culture.

2013年会馆成立国内外事务组，以引领潮人在国际舞台紧密联系为愿景，积极参与多项社区与国家事务，推动多项计划，包括“亚洲潮人企业家奖”以及“潮商大师班”，不断拓展潮人网络， 扩大会馆的公共影响力。
In 2013, the association established the Local and International Affairs Committee with the vision of strengthening global connections among Teochews. It has since launched programmes such as the Asian Teochew Entrepreneur Awards and the Teochew Business Masters Programme, expanding the Teochew network and enhancing the association’s public influence.
潮州八邑会馆大胆创新，举办了别开生面的潮州美姐选美赛，展示了潮籍女性在新时代中的风采与担当，同时也吸纳更多潮籍年轻女性成为会员，并加入到潮女组当中。潮女组，旨在发掘会馆女性会员的潜力，并促进她们的参与度，成为潮州女性互助成长交流的平台。自成立以来，潮女组十分活跃，打造了丰富多样的活动，包括森林浴体验、插花课程、瑜伽班、女性联谊之夜等，真正关注女性在生活、工作与家庭中的需求，支持女性的成长和生活品质的提升。
The Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan has continued to innovate by organising the Miss Teochew Beauty Pageant, showcasing the elegance, confidence and contributions of Teochew women in the new era. The initiative also attracted more young Teochew women to join the association and become part of the Ladies Committee.
The Ladies Committee aims to nurture the potential of female members and encourage their active participation, serving as a platform for mutual support and growth. Since its establishment, the group has been highly active, organising a wide range of programmes such as forest bathing experiences, floral arrangement workshops, yoga classes and women’s networking nights, supporting women’s well-being, personal development and quality of life.

八邑会馆先后成立新加坡潮汕留学生联合会和青年团，为会馆注入新鲜血液。青年团，致力于打造多元化的青年交流平台：通过文化交流活动广结善缘，举办职业分享会为职场打拼者赋能，更组织各类轻松聚会，让年轻人在互动中拓展人脉、收获友谊。
The Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan has also established the Singapore Teochew Students Association and the Youth Committee, injecting fresh energy into the association.
The Youth Committee is dedicated to building a diverse platform for youth engagement. It fosters connections through cultural exchange activities, empowers working professionals via career sharing sessions and organises casual gatherings that allow young members to expand their networks and build friendships in a relaxed environment.

新加坡潮州八邑会馆多次参加新春妆艺大游行，让潮州文化元素在新加坡社会大放异彩。2015 年以红头船、大锣鼓和过番客表演展示独特风采；2025年则参与108梁山好汉英歌舞、彩绘脸谱与木槌表演，将潮州非物质文化遗产的震撼与活力呈现给观众。
The Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan has participated in the annual Chinese New Year Chingay Parade on multiple occasions, showcasing Teochew cultural elements to the wider Singapore community. In 2015, it presented performances featuring the Red-Headed Ship, Teochew drum ensemble and the “Overseas Migrants” theme. In 2025, it returned with performances including the 108 Liangshan Heroes Yingge Dance, painted face art and wooden mallet displays, bringing the vibrancy and power of Teochew intangible cultural heritage to the audience.

In the 2015 Chingay Parade, the Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan showcased distinctly Teochew-themed performances such as the Red-Headed Ship, Teochew grand drum ensemble and the “Overseas Migrants “.
同时，会馆多次组织寻根之旅，带领会员及潮人乡亲前往潮汕旅游观光、品尝美食，让本地潮人后代更直接地了解和感受潮汕文化，加深情感链接和身份认同。
The association has also regularly organised ancestral homeland heritage tours, bringing members and Teochew compatriots to Chaoshan for cultural visits and food experiences. These programmes allow younger generations of Teochews in Singapore to gain a more direct understanding of their cultural roots, strengthening emotional ties and identity.

新加坡潮州八邑会馆每年举办新春团拜，周年庆典等大型活动，保持活跃开放的状态，内部运作井井有条。同时，会馆常年接待海外潮属社团与地方组织来访，已然成为连接海内外潮人的重要桥梁。凝聚着6000多名会员的热忱与力量，会馆多次荣获宗乡总会颁发的杰出会馆奖。
The Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan holds annual events such as Chinese New Year gatherings and anniversary celebrations, maintaining an active and well-organised community. It also regularly hosts overseas Teochew groups, serving as a key bridge between Teochews worldwide.
With the support of over 6,000 members, the association has received multiple Clan of The Year Award from the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations.

如今的新加坡潮州八邑会馆，正以更快更稳健的脚步向未来奋进，计划在未来三年积极推进“潮州文化中心”计划，作为保存与弘扬潮州文化的重要地标。另成立公益机构，推动教育、慈善与社区关怀等项目，让会馆更贴近社会，服务群众。此外，会馆新设立勤学奖，鼓励勤奋向学的学生，以培育下一代潮人。
The Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan is advancing plans for a “Teochew Cultural Centre” to preserve and promote Teochew heritage. It has also set up a charitable body to support education, welfare, and community care and introduced an Academic Diligence Award to encourage academic excellence among the next generation.
从红头船远渡南洋到百年会馆薪火相传，从敦睦乡谊的初心到联通全球的开阔格局，新加坡潮州八邑会馆在近百年的风雨岁月中砥砺前行，见证着一代又一代潮人在狮城落地生根、拼搏奋进、携手开创未来。秉持勤勉坚韧、勇于开拓的潮人精神，新加坡潮州社群已成为国家发展进程中的重要力量，在政界、商界与社会各领域扮演举足轻重的角色，他们以实干担当推动国家现代化建设，也以深厚的文化底蕴，为新加坡多元文化注入独特的色彩。

From the Red-Headed Ship crossing the seas to Southeast Asia to the century-old association passing its heritage from generation to generation, the Singapore Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan has persevered through nearly a century of challenges and change. It bears witness to successive generations of Teochews in Singapore establishing roots, striving for success, and building a shared future.
Guided by the Teochew spirit of diligence, resilience, and entrepreneurship, the Teochew community in Singapore has become an important force in national development, playing significant roles in politics, business and society. Through their dedication and achievements, they have contributed to Singapore’s modernisation while enriching its multicultural identity.
Rooted in shared heritage, the association preserves enduring bonds of fellowship that span generations. It continues to unite the community with inclusiveness and openness, bridging cultural heritage with social service. In doing so, it leads the Teochew people in embracing new opportunities and challenges. Ensuring that the Teochew spirit continues to flourish in Singapore, with its language and cultural ties carried forward through time.
